Solar Energy is the Earth’s primary source of renewable source of energy. Solar electricity has been, off late, a choice of energy source for the fact that it is - free, limitless, silent and pollution-free.
Solar energy - Statistics from around the Globe
In the year 2017-18, India has successfully produced 25,871 GWh of Solar Energy, a whopping increase of more than 45% since the last year.
A study published by researchers from Switzerland says solar panels mounted on mountaintops instead of rooftops can bridge the gap between demand and production during winter months.
India is gripping onto the idea of Floating Solar Power plant wherein the solar energy transmission uses the same lines used by hydropower, thereby solving problems arising due to connectivity and transmission.
How it works?
Our sun converts 657 million tons of hydrogen into 653 million tons of helium every second. The remaining 4 million tons are converted to light and heat energy via Einstein’s E=MC2 equation and radiated into space. Being at an average distance of 93 million miles from the sun, the earth collects approximately 4 lbs. of total energy, which supports life on earth as we know it.
Now each cell on a solar panel, also called as a photovoltaic cell, catches this light energy and transforms them into usable energy.
